A new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report offers guidance on the preexposure use of the JYNNEOS smallpox and monkeypox vaccine for individuals at risk for occupational exposure to orthopoxviruses. The recommendations were made by the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. The committee recommends preexposure vaccination for people who work in laboratories doing research on orthopoxviruses; people who work in clinical laboratories performing testing to diagnose orthopoxviruses, certain people responding to orthopoxvirus-related public health investigations; and health care personnel who care for patients infected with orthopoxviruses or administer the ACAM2000 vaccine.
