Surging costs for labor, drugs, supplies and equipment, along with rising inflation, pose an immediate threat to hospitals’ ability to deliver care, AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack writes in an advertorial today in the Wall Street Journal. To address this crisis, the AHA is urging Congress to halt impending and proposed Medicare payment cuts; extend waivers that improve care and health coverage subsidies that protect patients; and hold commercial health insurers accountable for improper practices, the advertorial notes. For more on the rising costs of caring, see the recent AHA report.
