The Congressional Social Determinants of Health Caucus yesterday held a briefing on “Addressing Food Insecurity and Nutrition as a SDOH.” Reps. Cheri Bustos, D-Ill., Tom Cole, R-Okla., G.K. Butterfield, D-N.C., Jim McGovern, D-Mass., and other participants voiced bipartisan support for addressing hunger issues for Americans. Participating on a panel on community-based efforts, Karlen Sandall, from OSF OnCall at OSF HealthCare in Illinois, shared how the digital health platform connects patients in need with community-based organizations that can assist them. Participants expect the conversation to continue in September at the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health, where stakeholders will discuss ideas to end hunger, improve nutrition and physical activity, and reduce diet-related diseases and disparities for millions of Americans.
